SSL Certificates
What Are They?
SSL certificates are data files that create a secure connection between your website and the visitors viewing your site. When installed (and properly configured) a padlock symbol and "https" protocol will show in the web browser when the site is visited.
Why Do You Need Them?
In the past SSL certificates were only really considered essential for websites transmitting secure and sensitive information (usually ecommerce websites). They are now however essential for 2 main reasons:
- Google gives a ranking boost to websites using SSL encryption
- Web browsers warn visitors when they are accessing sites with no encryption
SSL certificates also add an additional layer of security to your website keeping your content, and your visitor’s information, safe from cyber criminals and fraudsters. Having an SSL certificate installed your website will clearly show your visitors that you're taking steps to ensure security and demonstrates a level of trustworthiness and authenticity.
How Much Do They Cost?
I offer SSL certificates to all my web hosting clients, but unfortunately I don’t currently provide SSL certificates to clients hosting elsewhere. Setup and installation charged at my standard hourly rate if I built your website, if your existing annual renewals are £120 or more a year then no other costs are involved. Alternatively, SSL certificates can be included as part of my monthly management packages so you only have a single monthly fee which covers all your annual service renewals.
If you'd like to discuss getting an SSL certificate for your website then please fill out the form on this page and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.
